Whirlpool Washer Direct Drive Water Pump

PartSelect Number PS11741239
Manufacturer Part Number WP3363394
The direct drive drain pump (Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer Pump, Drain Pump, Washer Drain Pump, Water Pump) removes water from the washer during the drain cycle without the use of a belt. The pump is supposed to drain the water from the washer; if the water isn’t draining or if there is a leak, you may have a problem with your pump. You must replace this part if there is a blockage or clog. Although the symptoms may point to a malfunctioning drain pump, there could actually be a problem with one of the connecting hoses. This pump connected directly to the motor, and comes in white plastic. This replacement part features 1 direct drive water pump with 2 ports for water to pass through: a large one and a smaller one.

Washer would not drain ,F02 and SUD code displaying
(1) First I unpluged the washer then I removed the water from the tube with a water vac.(2) Then I removed the three (3) screws that holds the front panel, using a Torx T-20 socket. ( this is a front load washer ). The panel is below the loading door.
(3) I packed towels under the washer.
(4) I slowly removed the cleanout in the front of the pump, using the water vac to catch the water as it leaked out.
(5) I removed the wiring to the motor.
(6) I removed the screw that holds the pump in place with a Torx T-20 socket.
(7) I pulled the pump forward so the clamps that hold the drain hose and discharge hose could be removed using the hose clamp pliers. ( they come off much easier then they go back on ).
(8) I tested the pump and found it would run but was making a lot of noise and running slow.
(9) To reinstall start with number (7) and work backwards to number (1) skipping (3) and (4).

This drain pump is specially designed to fit in top load washing machines. It is responsible for removing water from the washer tub during the drain cycle and directing it to the household plumbing system through the drain hose. If you notice longer draining times, grinding or rattling sounds, or standing water in the tub at the end of a cycle, the drain pump is likely faulty. This may be due to several reasons such as normal aging, wiring problems or physical damage. It is also common for the drain pump to become clogged with small items such as coins or buttons.

PartSelect Number PS11757016
Manufacturer Part Number WPW10661045
This genuine OEM drain pump is designed for washing machines. It is responsible for removing the wastewater from the machine during the drain cycle. The drain pump works by creating suction to draw water out of the tub and push it out through the drain hose. Signs of a faulty drain pump include the washer failing to drain water properly, leaving clothes wet at the end of the cycle, or loud, unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as grinding or humming sounds. Additionally, if the drain pump is visibly damaged, or leaking, then it likely needs to be replaced. You can find the drain pump located at the bottom of the washing machine.

Loose change entered drain pump, cracked housing leaked all water out
Disconnect power, hot/cold supply and drain hose. Tip washer onto front side, expect some additional water to leak out. Remove the cracked drain pump, 3 screws, hose clamps, and electrical plug.

Tip washer back up, use the putty knife to pop the top cover up (clips are about 6.5in in from sides). Unclip the white plastic cover over the outer and inner tubs. Pop the center cap from inside the inner tub, exposing the bolt holding the inner tub down. Remove bolt, pull inner tub up and out.

At bottom of outer tub remove 2 screws from drain access cover, should find some change under there (or in the pump).

Re-assemble using new pump.

Note:
Before new pump arrived I was able to use some silicone sealant, epoxy, and black tape to temporarily fix the cracked pump housing after pulling it out.
