Whirlpool Dishwasher Circulation Pump

PartSelect Number PS16744934
Manufacturer Part Number W11612326
This circulation pump is a genuine OEM replacement part designed for use in dishwashers. It is responsible for circulating water throughout the dishwasher during the wash and rinse cycles. The circulation pump draws water from the dishwasher tub, pressurizes it, and then distributes it to the spray arms, which spray the water onto the dishes to remove food particles and debris. The circulation pump may fail due to several reasons such as an electrical fault, a blockage in the pump impeller, motor failure, or physical damage. A faulty pump will result in water leakages, unusually loud noises during use, reduced water circulation, and poor cleaning performance.

The dish washer wasn’t cleaning dishes
The circulation pump is a super easy fix and the installation video parts select has on its website is accurate. I felt the most difficult part of the repair was removing the dishwasher from the kitchen counter to make the repairs. After you get the dishwasher out, you pretty much just pop the old pump out with your hands and a flat head screwdriver. (The supplied video is spot on ) Installing the new pump will require a pinch plier or a hose clamp. I chose a new hose clamp as it is cheaper and I would never use the pinch pliers after this job. This drain pump is used in dishwashers to remove water from the dishwasher tub. If the impeller in the dishwasher is damaged or the motor has been shorted out and will not drain, it is possible the body is cracked, causing leakage. To prevent this from happening, replace the drain pump. The tools needed for this installation are: Phillips screwdriver, 5/16 inch nut driver, 5/8 inch wrench, and a flathead screwdriver. Remember to unplug your dishwasher from the power source before beginning this installation project. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer for further installation instructions.

dishwasher not draining after wash cycle
Caviat: The actual repair is less than 15 minutes, but I spent a lot of time playing with it before I figured out it was that easy and fast. You don't need to remove the dishwasher from the counter to do this. And it will probably help to look at the new part closely so you can understand where the retainer clip is to press it and release the old pump.

First remove the water from the dishwasher pan that would not drain with a wet/dry vac. Otherwise the water will all drain on the floor when you remove the pump. Then remove the two screws on the kickplate on the front of the unit below the door. Remove the kickplate/maintainence access cover. The drain pump is on the right about 8 inches in. Using two hands you grasp the drain pump with your right hand and use the left hand to push the retaining clip down. Then the drain pump will rotate 1/4 turn counterclockwise and can be removed without pulling the dishwasher out. There is likely to be some water leak out that was traped in the pump housing that you can not reach with the vac. Disconnect the wire. Connect the wire to the new pump, put it in place and 1/4 turn clockwise to install it. Replace the kickplate and you're done.

This drain pump is an authentic OEM replacement part for models of dishwasher. It is responsible for removing wastewater from the dishwasher during the drainage cycle. It is located at the bottom of the dishwasher and can be accessed by removing the lower access panel or by tipping the dishwasher on to its rear side. When activated, the drain pump pushes the wastewater through the drain hose and into the household plumbing system or garbage disposal. If the drain pump malfunctions or becomes clogged, it can lead to drainage issues, resulting in water pooling at the bottom of the dishwasher, foul odors and potentially resulting in incomplete cleaning of dishes.

Getting codes on display E1 E9. Pump not draining. It would drain after pump cooled down.
After unplugging the dishwasher, removing the water supply hose, and disconnecting the drain hose, I removed the dishwasher from under the cabinet. I turned the dishwasher on its side, exposing the drain pump. I removed the electrical connection wire by sliding the white keeper forward and then using a small screwdriver, I pushed in on the black clip securing the plug. I then found the clip holding the pump and rotated the pump from the sump area. I installed the new pump in the same way I removed it. Reinstalled the water line, pump hose . Put unit back and plugged it in. Turned on dishwasher. Works perfectly now. Read more...

I was getting the F9 E1 error code intermittently then consistently.
Checked drain hose and it was clear without kinks. I shut of the electrical breaker. Verified no power to washer. Removed the lower trim panel. Lowered the adjustable feet to allow me to slide my unit out. Disconnected drain hose from unit. Pulled unit from cabinet. My drain pump is located on the right bottom side when facing the door of the unit. I did not need to lay the unit on its side and have enough power cable to not have to disconnect it while still pulling the unit all the way out of the cabinet. The pump is easily accessed from the right side hidden behind insulation. Disconnected power wire from pump. Pressed down locking latch and turned pump counter clockwise removed then replaced in opposite order. I have run 3 load’s before posting this and as of now my dishwasher is functioning perfectly. Water leaking through the sump shaft seal
First I removed everything off of the bottom of the dishwasher. Then I removed the main center piece that everything mounts to. Then I reinstalled the new center piece with the help of some evoo cooking spray (extra virgin olive oil) I sprayed it on the rubber seal to aid in getting that center piece installed without a battle. Then I reinstalled everything else in the reverse order that I removed it. The evoo cooking spray works wonders for more than just cooking !!! Read more...
