Simple DIY LG Dryer Troubleshooting and Fixes
Most LG dryer issues are simple to troubleshoot and fix. We talk about some of the common symptoms you will see, as well as helping you figure out what part you need to fix them. These are easy DIY tasks that anyone can tackle. Your LG dryer will be up and running in no time.
Noisy LG Dryer – Dryers have a lot of moving parts, and as these parts wear out and near the end of their lifespan, they may start making noises. These noises are helpful diagnostic tools; for instance, if you hear squeaking it is likely a rotating part like an idler pulley or drum bearings. If you hear grinding or scratching, it could be a sign that the drum glide or seal has worn down. Some of the common dryer noises are squeaking, thumping or banging, and grinding. The parts that are most likely to cause your LG dryer to become noisy are the drive belt and pulley, the drum rollers and bearings, the drum glides, and the blower wheel.
LG Dryer Will Not Start – If your LG dryer will not turn on the first thing you are going to want to do is check the outlet, the fuses, and the breaker. There is a good chance it could be a power failure, and checking these parts will help confirm that. If you are not experiencing power failure or electronics problems, meaning the appliance is on but it just will not run a cycle, you will want to start by checking the door switch. A dryer will not run if it thinks the door is open. So, check to make sure the switch is not broken, faulty, or obstructed. If you find no issue with the door switch you should then take a look at the thermal fuse, start switch, timer, and thermostats.
LG Dryer Not Heating Properly – If you are running cycle after cycle and finding the clothes in your dryer are not completely dry there could be a heating issue. It is possible your LG dryer is not getting hot enough or it is not getting hot at all. The most likely cause is an airflow issue, which is a simple fix. You are going to want to clean out the exhaust vents, which should be part of your regular dryer maintenance. If your vents are clear and the problem persists you can then start to look at specific parts, such as the heating element, thermal fuse, power cord, and thermostats.
LG Dryer Will Not Tumble – Overloading your LG dryer might cause a power imbalance; the motor might struggle to rotate the drum if it is too heavy. This could cause bigger problems if you are frequently overworking the motor, so this is something you want to be aware of. If you have ruled that out the most likely cause is an issue with the drive belt. Over time this part might stretch out or break. If it does, the drum will not be properly attached to the pulley system that spins it. You can check this by rotating the drum with your hand, if there is no resistance and it spins too freely it is likely an issue with the belt. If it is not the belt you should test the motor.
