Simple DIY Kenmore Refrigerator Troubleshooting
Kenmore refrigerators are reliable, but when issues spring up we will walk you through how to diagnose and fix them. Most refrigerator fixes are quite simple, you can troubleshoot them yourself. Below we walk you through common issues and the parts that solve them.
Noisy Kenmore Refrigerator – It is not uncommon for a refrigerator to be noisy, but if you notice a new or increasing sound you might want to inspect the issue further. Have you heard buzzing, humming, clicking, and knocking noises coming from your Kenmore refrigerator? You first need to figure out where on the appliance the sound is coming from. There are many moving parts in your Kenmore appliance, such as the condenser fan motor and evaporator fan motor, and friction and wear over time might lead to the noises. Some specific noises have clear fixes, for example, a scraping sound is caused by one of the internal fans brushing up against something as it spins. If you hear rattling you need to make sure that your Kenmore fridge is level, and the drain pan is secure. Your Kenmore fridge is always going to make some amount of noise, and a mild humming noise is normal, but if you notice an increased humming sound, the compressor might be overworked.
Leaking Kenmore Refrigerator – A leak is not an indication of a major problem with your Kenmore fridge, most often it is a simple fix. You are going to first want to figure out where the water is pooling and look for any indicators that point to the source. For instance, is there condensation inside the fridge? Is there ice build-up that could be melting? Do you have an icemaker that has a water line? You are then going to want to inspect your door gaskets and seals. If the door is not completely sealed it will not only lead to condensation, but it will also overwork your fridge and lead to bigger issues. If you have ruled that out you should also check water inlet valves, water lines, and the icemaker.
Kenmore Refrigerator Will Not Run – It might be worrying when you notice that your Kenmore Fridge is not running, but often there can be a simple fix. If the fridge is not running, you will want to troubleshoot things before the temperature starts rising too much. There are a few parts that work together to monitor the internal temperature of your Kenmore fridge and communicate with the control board. You will want to check these parts. We recommend you look at the start capacitor, overload, temperature control, and control board. If the issue is not sensing temperature, or communication of the temperature, it could be an issue with the compressor itself.
Kenmore Icemaker Not Making Ice – If you notice that the icemaker in your Kenmore fridge is not making ice the first thing you should do is check the bail arm in the ice bin. When the bail arm is engaged the icemaker will not make ice because it thinks the bin is full, so a quick check to make sure it is not stuck before beginning the troubleshooting process is wise. If you have ruled that out it is most likely there is an issue with the water supply, if the icemaker is getting no water or not enough water ice will not be made. To check the water supply you will want to inspect the water line, water inlet valve, and the water filter.
Kenmore Refrigerator Too Warm – The primary job of your refrigerator is to keep things cool, but if your Kenmore fridge is not cooling properly, it could be a simple fix. Before you start troubleshooting and inspecting parts you should ensure your fridge is stocked properly. If that is not the issue you should then look at the air circulation. You need to confirm the air damper or baffle is undamaged and unblocked; that is how cool air gets into your fridge. If you have ruled that out you will then want to look at the evaporator fan, condenser fan, and the temperature sensor.
