Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This is the door switch for your dryer. Door switches are used to communicate with the control board when the door is fully closed, so the drying cycle can safely begin, and if it is opened so it can stop. If this door switch is damaged or bad from extended use or excessive force when closing, it will cause your dryer not to start, and it will need to be replaced. This door switch will require a few tools, such as a screwdriver, wrench, and pliers to replace, and some slight disassembly of your dryer. This door switch is an OEM part and is sold individually.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money
Why buy the real thing?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Simply put, this means that the company who made your appliance is also supplying the replacement part for it.

Easy Repair!
I was hesitant about trying to fix the dryer myself, but considering the cost savings, figured it was worth a try. This was the easiest part to replace myself! It took barely 10 min and only because the old piece was jammed in there and I had to muscle it out. The new piece popped in easily with no problems and now the dryer works perfectly!! Thank you!!

No Problem repair
Sought a part that I suspected was causing my problem. Ordered that part. easy peasy. Removed suspected faulty part using procedure found on-line. Tested old part and could not find a problem with it. Now I had concerns. New part arrived. Installed. Dryer works flawlessly now. Still don't know why I couldn't prove the old part was failing, but the proof is in the results.

The dryer would not start.
The entire dryer had to be taken apart to get to the door switch. I determined the door switch was faulty by measuring conductivity. I purchased the new switch which cost about $9. The shipping cost was $9. After all that, the dryer still won't start. I gave up and bought a new dryer.

Dryer started out continuing to tumble after door was opened. Now, we have to put pressure on the door at the bottom left of the door before we can start drying by pressing the start button. Does this sound like the door switch?
For model number GTD33EASK0WW
Hi Gina,
Thank you for your question. If you have to put pressure on the door at the bottom for the dryer to work, check and see if the door is aligned correctly. If it is not, then you may need to check the door strike and latch and you should check the hinge as well. If these parts check out fine, then the issue may be the door switch. You should also check the timer and the cycling thermostat as well. You will need to test the electronic parts with a multi-meter. Here is a link to one of our videos on YouTube that you may use as a general reference on how to use one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWC44fHn0As. For more information on how to test these parts, click on the Appliance Repair link on our website and on the next page that comes up click on the dryer icon. When the next page comes up, you will be provided with a symptoms list. Choose the "Will not shut off" symptom and the information will come up for you. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.
If the light goes out when the door is closed does that mean the door switch is working correctly?
For model number GTD42GASJ2WW
Hello Stuart, thank you for reaching out. According to our research, if the light is on when the door is open and it shuts off when the door is closed, then it means that the door switch is working properly. We hope this information helps!

Is the door switch supposed to make a clicking noise when you push it in and out? The dryer stopped while spinning. Took it apart and found the belt was broken. Replaced the belt, but cannot get it to start. I powers on but won't start.
For model number GTD65EBSJ3WS
Hello Anthony, thank you for your question. Various things will cause a dryer not to start. Some are misaligned drum or rollers, engaged child lock, overloaded unit. Replace the thermal fuse if the multimeter measures no continuity. Check the exhaust vent because a clog in the vent likely caused the thermal fuse to blow. We hope this helps.
