GTW485ASJ3WS General Electric Washer - Instructions

Not knowing for sure how to fit it I went to youtube for help watched a few videos and tested different things until I hit the right one .Moms washer is fixed.replaced lid lock,motherboard and pump I'm sure I don't need all those parts because when I found the code for the lid lock it started working

Extremely easy. You will need a helper to make it easy. The best directions are on you tube.

Attached the lid striker with 2 screws to hold it in place

I just took old one out an put new one in

IF you do the same repair, SAVE THE LITTLE O-RING that is inside the old part where the temperature probe stick in (If that is indeed what it is). It's chrome in color. New part does NOT come with that O-ring

REALLY easy-
Just unscrewed the two screws with a Phillips, slid the old one out, the new one set in perfectly, and used the same screws to hold it in place. 2 minute task total.

The parts I ordered were made of junk plastic and did not match up with the the existing parts. The parts did not end up fixing the problem and I bought a new washer instead.

Waste of money

Being a woman I had to figure out tipping it in its front. I put it on a dollie and drop it down real easy.
Removed all water lines after water was shut off.
Removed bolts. Removed bolts on plate to the right to unplug old pump.
Plugged in new one and replaced all bolts, hoses and tipped her back up. Works like a charm and I saved $408 by doing it myself!!!!!

Replaced water pump. Washer now works as new.
Wife is now happy!

Instructions were fairly good, line up holes and push a phillips head screwdriver thru auger then twist it off. Problem is you can only use a short screwdriver due to space limitations, and it is or at least for me was impossible to twist the auger off as directed, but after I lost my temper and gave the screwdriver a good thump (auger was already broke, what's the harm) with my left hand the auger came right off, putting the new one on is very simple.

I ordered a drive belt later to go with this repair which I wish I had done when I ordered the speed sensor and saved shipping. I think that was the real culprit. I had get customer service to help me with the part number because it wasn't listed on the parts list.

I set washer to drain and spin empty to get as much water out as possible. Tilted washer on its side on top of two thick cushions so was about a 15 degree angle off the floor and didn't spill leftover water in the drum.
I took the protective cover off using socket wrench for the 3 bolts. There was belt shreds all over the bottom. Took off smaller drive wheel with socket wrench in order to get to speed sensor. Speed sensor is connected on the motor frame. I used two small flathead screwdrivers in the slots to unsnap the old part. Cleaned off belt debris. Connected the new speed sensor wires first then should click into place. Put drive wheel back on. Put new belt on small drive wheel and lined up grooves. Note that the new drive belt will be smaller than the old one. I found the easiest way to get the new belt on is to hold it on the small wheel and start wrapping the belt on one side of the large wheel and rotating the wheels which is going to turn the drum. Sort of how you would rechain a bike which shows my age!
Put protective cover back on.

The last thing I did was since I had access to the bottom of the drum was to clean out the pressure line port which can lead to spin issues. It is about half an arms length up the side of drum above the drain hose. Its a small gray tubing attached to the drum. Pull the tubing off and it reveals a little port that can get clogged. Use your1/16th drill bit and put in the port about an inch to inch and half and clear out the port. Re-attach the hose firmly.

Machine working as good as new and clothes are almost bone dry now!

1 Disconnect power 2) Cut water supply to washer 3) Disconnect water supply hoses from supply.
***if pump broke with water in tub, remove water from tub. 4) tip machine onto it's front side 5) remove hose clamp of exhaust hose & then remove exhaust hose from pump 6) Remove pump with socket/ratchet 7) disconnect pump electrical plug 8) tell old pump to take a hike & throw in garbage 9)Iinstall new pump 10) Do steps 7—1 in reverse order to put back into business.******Be prepared to do it again in 6 months; I havnt had good luck!

I watched a youtube video to see how others performed the repair. My washer was a little different than in the videos but the inlet valve was very easy to access once I pulled the washer out of it's "nook". I took off the back panel of the control "box" (4 screws). Then accessed the valve which was held in place with two screws. The screws were buried behind a few wires so they were a little difficult to access but not impossible. I did need to use my 1/4" box end wrench as my son had borrowed my socket set.

The people at PartsSelect were helpful in selecting the right part and the repair is working fine. My wife is happy.

Emptied the washer, took the back cover off, tipped it foward, unplugge the old pump, remove two mount bolts. The replaced the new pump. The new pump resolved the issue.

Easy fix. Take out the two screws on the backside of the control panel and remove control panel out of the way. You will need a long shaft nut driver or 1/4 inch socket extension to be able to get to the nuts, one on each side of the back of the control panel. The water inlet valve is right there in your face. Easy to remove and replace. Remember to save the small O-ring in the center of the top of the valve and reuse it. Oh, by-the-way, shut the water off first and unplug the washer. Replacement part was a perfect match.
