This is a drain pump assembly for dishwashers. The drain pump is what drains and removes the dirty and contaminated food waste and water from your dishwasher during and after the washing cycle. Over time and with increasing age, pumps can fail or simply stop working as efficiently, and if you suspect your drain pump assembly is broken or bad, it is worth inspecting and testing with a multimeter before replacing. Replacing a drain pump will require some disassembly of your dishwasher, and as such will require a screwdriver and wrench. This OEM drain pump assembly is sold individually and does not come with any other parts like hoses or wire harnesses.

Hotpoint Dishwasher Pump Connector
Lay dishwasher on it's back to access the bottom. Loosen all clamps. Remove both U shaped holders on the sump inlet. Remove screws holding the drain motor. Pull out the pump motor and sump inlet. Connector pump can be unscrewed from the bottom.
Replace parts and reassemble. It isn't that bad once you start disassembly, especially for anyone somewhat handy. Read more...

The connector pump had a pinhole leak at the seam (new part did not have seams). Also replaced the sump inlet which looked worn and the impeller.Lay dishwasher on it's back to access the bottom. Control module went out - causing the heating element to super heat, melting several of the plastic interior parts
I replaced the control module, and effected plastic interior parts - tested wihout heat, then re-tested with heat dry - performed beautifully. This is a pretty expensive unit that would cost around $1500 to replace new. And, Sears wanted $1500 to repair, so I saved a bunch doing it myself for about $350.

Water Not Draining.
There are videos on YouTube that demonstrate the repair process better than I can type. I will say I'm not certain why the dishwasher wasn't draining other than when I removed the chamber collection and repositioned the ball filter it would work as it should until the next time. Replacing the sump, chamber collection, and ball filter was a shot in the dark. The tub insulation was an improvement on noise. The first cycle seemed to be draining water better. Overall the removal and installation of the parts was not difficult.

Rodents ate the sump inlet so machine leaked everywhere!
Turned off electric at the fuse box and shut off the water. Pulled the dishwasher out and took out bottom sprayer (pull up and twist), filter basket etc. Then put the washer on its back and removed sump inlet and adaptor. This entails removing a couple of hose clamps and 4 bolts that hold sump inlet in place. Replaced with new. Turned over the machine and reinstalled the filter basket and sprayer after cleaning them. Reconnected the water and turned on the power. Machine works like new!!! Total parts cost me less than $50. Repair guy wanted around $300 to do it!!!!
