This seal is also referred to as a door gasket, and it is designed for use on dishwashers. It is installed on the door of the appliance, and it seals the space between the tub of the dishwasher and the door. This seal works for prevent water from escaping during the wash cycle. Over time the seal might wear out, or it might get damaged, when that happens you will start to notice leaks. If water is leaking from the door of your dishwasher during operation it may be time for you to replace the door gasket on your appliance. This door seal is made of rubber, and it is black in color.

Water was leaking below the door. The gasket that seals the door shut was torn from wear and needed replacement

I removed the old gasket easily, it pulled right out. I spent a few minutes cleaning the gunk out from the seam using a standard kitchen cleaner (it was gross and I had to do it multiple times). Tip: pay attention to the shape of the gasket and which side faces in vs. out when pulling out the old one. Also, for reference, take a photo of the old gasket and how it's positioned before pulling it out. Then, simply start at the bottom (either side) and insert the new gasket. Work your way up, over and down the other side. If it's facing the right way it'll go in very easily, if not is will be very difficult—this is how you'll know. After installation, run your dishwasher empty for a full cycle (with towel underneath the door) and check back frequently during the cycle. If there are no leaks you're done. This was the fastest, easiest way to attempt to fix a leaky door and eliminate the gasket as the problem (which it did!) If the machine still leaks the issue is likely something bigger. Read more...

This door seal, also known as a door gasket, is an authentic manufacturer replacement part for your dishwasher. It is responsible for creating a watertight seal between the tub and dishwasher door and preventing water from leaking out while the dishwasher is running. Therefore, if you notice water leaking from the front of your dishwasher and difficulties closing the door, then it is likely that the seal is either worn down, torn, or has a buildup of mold. Carefully pull the defective seal from the perimeter of the tub and clean the area thoroughly. Place the new seal in the grooves around the tub and close the dishwasher door to press it into place.

Lower door seal was leaking

There are two ways to do this repair: the "right" way and the hard way. I chose the hard way, as the right way involves disconnecting the dishwasher plumbing, removing the dishwasher from under the counter, taking all the outer panels off, and disabling the door springs. There are good YouTube videos on this. The hard way doesn't involve that -- but is not all that easy and I'm not sure I'd recommend it. The problem, in essence, is that to install the new seal there is now way to do it without taking the door off the machine and taking the door apart -- which requires that the springs be locked out, if not disabled.

I accomplished that part of it by opening the door, partially, undoing the two screws on each side which hold the hinges, taking the front panel off (piece of cake, with a Torx driver),slipping the door partly off the hinges, and then locking the hinges open with the pry bars.

There are an assortment of ways one could seriously damage either the door or one's self doing it that way -- the hinge springs are very powerful -- so I don't recommend my approach. Read more...

Upper door seal (the surround seal) was leaking

This is a piece of cake. No tools are actually needed. Grasp one end of the old seal and gently pull it out of the groove in which is fits. Take the new seal, and paying attention to which way around it fits (there is a right and wrong way!) start at either end. Leave an inch or so beyond the groove to rest on the bottom of the dishwasher, and press the seal in place in the groove. You should have an inch or so left at the far end. Go back and go all along the seal and make sure it is pressed evenly and completely into the groove the full length.

Replacing Dishwasher door gasket

Watched a 5 min YouTube video and followed directions. Could not have performed the project without the video help. Had to remove dishwasher from under the counter to remove door from dishwasher.
