Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This pump helps expel water from the washing machine and is activated after the spin speed is maintained for a specific period of time. If you notice that your washing machine will not drain, there is a good chance that you will have to replace the drain pump. The drain pump is located inside the washing machine, near the bottom. To access the drain pump for this repair, you will need to remove the front panel. Before you begin this repair, be sure that the power source is disconnected and the water source is shut off.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money
Why buy the real thing?

Right part, easy enough install
Part fully functional, install easy enough. Minor struggle with hose clamps. I'm just a DIY homeowner and between the part being correct and the videos, I was back in action in no time.

Washing Machine Water Pump and Motor Replacement...
Removed and replaced this assembly and it worked like new without the grinding noise the old assembly exhibited. The fun part was the two water hose disconnects-reconnects during remove/replace procedure. That was the only real work involved. Still easier than the old conventional water pumps of earlier model GE Washing Machines with the spinning bib adapter alignments when clothes tub was too wobbly during machine operation. The machine design is the first of its kind I have ever seen. There are no gears in this washing machine, that surprised me. The motor is like a stepper with instant electronic inverter PC board signals powering it to do all the agitation (slow and fast)and during the draining of tub water, the gradual up to top speed spin proceeding both rinse and the finalizing of the wash job and shutoff.

Simple repair, worked great
Easy repair after watching video on the site. Never repaired a washer before. Cheaper than having a tech come out and saved me the cost of a new appliance. Definitely recommend for any repairs. Had to deal with customer service due to a shipping issue and were extremely helpful to address problem quickly.

Water not draining out of the washing machine
The front panel has to be taken off to access the washing machine pump. To do this I used a putty knife I inserted the putty knife in the slot at the top of the front panel where it meets the top of the machine to release the clip that holds the panel in place. Once the panel is off the pump is mounted to the bottom of the machine with tw
... Read moreo screws. There are also two hoses attached to the pump that need to be taken off. Before you do this you have to get as much water out of the machine as you can to minimize the amount of water that will come out when you disconnect the hoses. My recommendation is to replace the spring type hose clamps the manufacturer uses with a screw type hose clamp. These are much easier to put back on once the hoses are in place. You are not fighting the spring clamp while trying to put the hose on in a confined space. Then put the front panel back on. This may take about a half hour if you do not have too much clean up because you didn’t get enough water out of the machine.

Water wasn't being pumped out.
The pump would stick and not pump the water out from time to time. I have removed the pump before and cleaned it so to replace it wasn't much different for me. The instructions on the web site were pretty straight and easy to follow.

Clothes were still Wet after Spin Cycle and I could smell something burning like Electrical type smell.
Unfortunately this did not solve my problem. After further inspection I still have the burning smell and the washer cuts off after it Agitates for a few seconds then in a minute or so it will Agitate a few more seconds and then cut off again. I also replaced the control panel still have the same problem. I would say it is the motor but th
... Read moree motor works fine in Spin Cycle. As for the Pump replacement it is very simple just follow the instruction Video on this site and 15 minutes later your new pump is installed. I will keep the pump since my new Washer uses the same part. P.S. The burning smell is not coming from the belt. It's almost like some kind of circuit protector is tripping and then a few minutes later it lets the washer start again.

Washing Machine Pump
The website was tremendous. Everything was right there, easy to understand. The 'repair' video was outstanding; made it sooooo much easier. Would use this site over and over again (but hope I don't have to use it that much! lol).
My wife calls me and says that the washer is not draining water so I was like "great"...here goes more money. After I tried draining, cleaning, checking for leaks, I looked up possible causes and came across the water pump. I have bought from parts select and I love this website so I jumped on here, found the causes, diagram, installatio

Water drains as it tries to fill. Turn off the switch, the draining stops. Turn on the switch and the water drains as it tries to fill again.
For model number GLWP2000M0WW
Hi Dennis,
Thank you for the question. The first thing to check is your washing machine drain hose,it might be pushed too far into the stand pipe in the wall. There needs to be an air gap and if the drain hose is pushed too far in there is no air gap. This creates a vacuum or siphoning and the water is siphoned out of the tub as it fills with water. There needs to be a bend at the apex of the drain hose. It needs to be above the height of the wash tub.
Hope this helps!

When it comes to the spin cycle, the washer will not spin to help eliminate the excess water out of the clothes, it drains but will not go into the spin cycle.
For model number WJRR4170G1WW
Hello Michael, thank you for contacting us. You will want to test the door switch/latch as a faulty one can prevent the washer from spinning. Also it could be the drain pump and motor assembly. Good luck with the repair!

Twice the washer wouldn't drain. I would come back later and try the drain cycle and it would drain. My wife thought she smelled something like it was burning. I heard it yesterday and when it came to the drain cycle it didn't sound right. Looked inside it was not draining. Took all the clothes out and tried multiple times to drain with no luck. Tried this morning and it drained but was slow on getting started. I'm thinking of replacing the pump.
For model number GTWN4000MWS
Hi Tom,
Thank you for your question. It does indeed sound like you would have to replace your drain pump and motor assembly. Good luck with your repair.

Decided to wash a few pillows last night when my washer started making horrible sounds when i looked in i saw that one of the pillows had a tare and there was stuffing every where. I opened the washer up and i'm assuming the stuffing has gotten lodged into the motor because it is no longer moving now my washer will not drain or spin. My question is what other repercussions could this stuffing have what else could or probably has broken? Should i just but a new dryer or just buy the motor?
For model number WCSR2070TBWW
Hi Megan,
Thank you for your inquiry. It is possible that the stuffing has gotten into the pump and the hoses and you will need to check them. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hello, my washing machine is operational and nothing new has changed on how I do laundry (water temp., detergent, etc). The last couple loads the clothes smell bad, like stagnant water. The clothes drum is empty of water but I'm assuming some water is remaining in machine an thus the stagnant water smell ? Would a new pump take care of this ? Thank you for your time.
For model number WHDRR418E1WW
Hi Claudio, Thank you for the question. I would check to see if any small items (socks ect.) have got in between the basket and drum or under the agitator base. Also make sure the drain hose is not clogged. You can try to run your washing machine empty on the hot wash setting, with some baking soda and 2 cups of vinegar, to thoroughly flush out mildew and dirt residue between the basket and the tub. Again, running another quick rinse cycle afterwards, also at a high temperature will ensure no vinegar remains for your next load of laundry. If the smell stays I suggest replacing the pump. Hope this helps!

Our washer fails to drain even though the pump seems to be running. Could there be an obstruction or blockage? Where would i look for blockage?
For model number Model GTWN4250MIWS
Hi Bob,
Thank you for your question. If the washer is not draining, the majority of the time the issue is the drain pump. If it is clogged with debris, you will need to inspect it. There are some parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the drain hose, the belt, the pump to cabinet drain hose, the lid switch and the pump to tub inlet drain hose. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Resubmitted with model number
Washer doesn't drain. door switch works. correct volts from wall to pump leads. 11 ohms on pump. impeller spins and clear. in take and outflow lines are clear. some burning smell. humming.
any idea, this being so electronic, where to read fault codes?
For model number WJSE4150B2WW
Hello Joe, thank you for writing. We have information for GE fault codes at the following link: https://www.partselect.com/JustForFun/GE-Appliance-Fault-Codes.aspx. When testing the Drain Pump with a multi meter, it should read at about 16 ohms, and 120 volts to be working correctly. You may have a faulty Drain Pump. This part number PS8768445 is the correct replacement for your model. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair!
