Surface light bulbs burnt out and heat welded to sockets
Since the job required replacing both the bulbs and sockets the unit was dropped from the wall. Used a towel and plywood to protect the range under the unit. Then these steps: Unplugged the power cable and placed a support board under the unit while removing three bolts from overhead cabinet. Next, removed support board and with a helper
... Read more rotated the unit down and lifted it out of the rear wall mounting panel. Then turned the unit upside down, removed the bottom plate and unplugged the feed wires and two wires to each of the sockets. Next the single screws holding the sockets were removed and the sockets extracted from the mounting shells and new units were installed. When remounting the unit it was necessary to start all three bolts from the upper cabinet just a few turns and then tighten the center bolt completely first.
Thankfully I found this website and was able to understand how to find the part I needed and then install it. One you remove all the screws on the bottom the area where the socket goes is revealed, 2 screws to replace it, then you're done. I have light again, thank you!

Light socket (part number wb08x10016). Is there any documentation on how to replace the socket. Tried to unscrew the existing light bulb (it burned out) and it broke at the base. Now the base of the bulb is still screwed into the socket. Any suggestions?

Hi Stephen, thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not have anything on a situation like that. What I could suggest would be to cut power to your appliance completely. Then you could take a pair of pliers or something of the like, stick it into the broken base, firmly press it open so that it puts pressure on the sides of the base and then try to screw it out like you normally would with the whole bulb. This however is just a suggestion. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Control panel display goes off/on sporadically. If off, i can sometimes still get the microwave to work by selecting the appropriate keys (+) start. When this doesn't work, hitting the control panel or slamming the door may enable starting. What part(s) do you recommend? Thank you!

Thank you for your inquiry. If your touchpad is not responding, the part that fixes the issue the majority of the time is the secondary door switch. Some other parts you may want to check to see if they are causing the issue are the light socket, the monitor door switch, the thermo sw-tco sense temp, the touchpad and the electronic control board. While replacing light bulb the socket and light bulb popped and the entire microwave did not function after this. Could replacing the socket allow the microwave to be functional again.

Thank you for your inquiry. Replacing the light socket may fix the issue, but if it is not coming on I would use a multimeter to check the electronic control board to see if it is not shorted out. You will need to check the door switches as well. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How to remove socket which is partially broken from heat. How to remove glass cover for better access.

Hello Joan, Thank you for the question. There is a Frame to hold the Glass Lens, it is held in place by one screw. Once the screw is removed the Frame and Lens will come off the base of the appliance. The light bulb socket is held in place by 2 screws. Once they are removed you can use pliers to pull the socket from the base and unplug the wires. Make sure the power is turned off to the appliance before performing the repair. We hope this helps!

My bulb went out (under micro lights up stove surface) and went I replaced it. I heard a pop. I removed the light sockets (2) Connections to sockets look black so think I should replace both sockets and wiring that connects them. Please advise if I should be looking for a fuse. Thank you

Thank you for your question. If the lights were the only parts that were not working correctly, then I would replace the sockets. There is a fuse listed under your model number, part number PS239525, but this should not be the issue. If you would like to test it to see if there is an issue with it, you will need to test it with a multimeter.
