Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This Charcoal Filter traps grease from your oven's exhaust to help prevent it from entering the vent, which could cause damage over time. If the exhaust fan on your microwave is not working, you may need to replace your charcoal filter. This charcoal filter is located within the intake grille of your microwave, which will need to be unscrewed and opened to gain access to the filter. The manufacturer recommends that you change your charcoal filter every six months. This filter measures 5 inches by 5.375 inches by 0.375 inches. Be sure to measure your current filter to assure correct replacement. This product is sold individually. We recommend the use of gloves during installation to protect your hands from messy grease during your repair. You should also unplug your appliance at the electrical outlet or switch it off at the breaker. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unthread the screws securing the grill. Open the door and slide the grill to the left and lift it up to remove it. This will allow access to the filter so it can be either replaced or cleaned. Remember to insert the tabs of the grill into the frame and slide it to the right when you are done. To finish, shut the oven door and secure the grill with the screws.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money

Vent grille fell off due to cracked pieces
Simply removed old screws from the remaining pieces still attached to my microwave. Cleaned up all surfaces. Put new grille into place. Replaced screws in the holes. Went great. Part fits perfectly.
Plastic grille vent became brittle over time and broke when changing charcoal filter.
Replacing the grill is so ridiculously simple (two small screws) that it is hardly worth writing "instructions" for it.
However, ordering the right part is a problem. My microwave has a stainless steel exterior but on your parts list there is no part clearly identified as such. Only black and white. Then there's one for which a

I then enquired if the part with a stainless steel exterior was available, or just its broken plastic base so that I could transfer the stainless steel wrap from the broken piece. The white plastic part that I received does not have certain slots to attach the stainless steel wrap.
However, you merely confirmed that the part I received was white so that was not very helpful. I installed the white part and it looks absolutely horrible on top of a stainless steel oven but it is what it is. But not too happy with your service and website to be quite honest.
The grease filters you sent to me are not the same size as the filters I replaced!!! Since the new filters do not fit correctly the air does not get filtered since the filters are too small for the hole. Why would you send me replacements that are not the same size as the ones I replaced? The filters are in the hole of the original ones

I first unplugged the microwave. I then unscrewed the 2 screws from the top grill. I had to be careful because the grill was cracked close to each screw. It was a little tricky to remove the grill. Had to tilt it down as I removed it, and make sure the microwave door was opened as wide as possible. Filters were placed as the old ones, wi

Kind of maneuvered grill back in place, getting right side in place first. I noticed there were several tabs on the grill that needed to be placed inside of the microwave body while reinstalling the grill. Once the grill was in place, the 2 screws were put in to hold the grill in place.

Change broken 40W light bulb on Over-the-range Microwave
The original bulb came apart while unscrewing it from the back of the microwave, leaving the metal screw thread contact still in the socket. Since this is an over-the-range micriwave there isn't enough room to manuever needle nose pliers into the socket to remove the screw thread contact. So this is how we were able to remove it. U

BEWARE: KMHS120ESS takes two charcoal filters. This site doesn't tell you that! I only figured it out after ordering one, receiving it, and removing the vent cover to replace it. So then I had to order another one and pay for shipping a second time (which cost almost as much as the filter itself). C'mon PartSelect, why are these not sold

On top front of the microwave are two Philip's head screws holding the rail on. Remove these screws and the rail snap out the old filter (noting the dark side down) then snapping the new filter in. Replace rail. 10 to 15 minute task.

My microwave turns on but will not heat. I switched power setting to 90% and it warmed up some water but it i had to run it for four minutes. I took out the filters and they look good. I removed the unit from above the range. I am going to run it to see if the exhaust flue opens. I wont have time today but i will get to it tomorrow. The unit is two years old. I would like to avoid buying a new one and extended coverage is almost as much as a new unit. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Rey.
For model number WMH53520CS2
Hi Rey
Thank you for your question. There are a couple of parts you could check. I would suggest checking your door micro switches, your fuse, and your diode. I hope that helps. You should be able to test all three of those parts with a multi meter to see if they are working correctly. Good luck with your repair.

How do i get to this filter do i have to pull the whole microwave to get to the grill to remove it?
For model number WMH1163XVS0
Hi Richard,
Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. Use a Phillips head screw driver to unthread the screws securing the grill. With the screws removed, open the microwave oven door then the slide the grill to the left and lift it up to remove. This will allow you to access the filter so you can either replace it or clean it. When you are done, insert the tabs of the grill into the frame and slide it to the right. Shut the oven door and then secure the grill with the screws. Restore power to the microwave. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How many charcoal filters does it take and do you have a pic to show this, not the parts pic's but how to install. Mine only has one, but one person stated it has 2.
For model number WMH1164XWS1
Hi Frances,
That is a good question. If your microwave only has one charcoal filter then just order one. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.

When we place something inside to reheat and push the start button it wont turn on. The message "open and close door" displays. After many attempts it would turn on but after a couple weeks it got worse, but now it only beeps and the display is filled with lights. The unit was unplugged to stop the beeping.

Hello Chuck thank you for your question. I would recommend replacing the door switches for your unit. There are three of them that should be replaced at the same time. Door Switch - 3 Terminal PartSelect Number: PS10057151, Door Switch PartSelect Number: PS2361111 and Door Switch PartSelect Number: PS2361113. If even one of these switches is not functioning properly the unit is not recognizing that the door is shut to allow the unit to run. I hope this helps!

When my microwave says to check the filter, which one is it referring to? The charcoal or the grease?
For model number GMH3204XVS1
Hello Teresa, Thank you for the question. In most cases it is the Grease filter, however both are normally replaced at the same time. We hope this helps!
