Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This auger is an authentic OEM replacement part specially designed for washing machines. It is a white, spiral-shaped agitator located in the center of the wash basket. During the wash cycle the auger rotates to move the clothes, lifting them up and then dropping them back down into the water and detergent solution. By agitating the clothes, the auger helps to loosen dirt, stains, and debris, to ensure that your clothes receive a thorough and effective cleaning. Signs of a faulty auger include unusual noises like grinding and scraping, incomplete wash cycles, and torn or tangled clothing.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money
Why buy the real thing?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Simply put, this means that the company who made your appliance is also supplying the replacement part for it.

Auger replacement
The auger on our NEW GE washer kept getting loose and falling off. This appears to be a new version with stronger attachment features. So far it has worked well. Time will tell.

Good Part Just a Bad Design
The part was packaged well and arrived quickly. In addition to the auger I also purchased the base piece it connects to since my old one was cracked. I had tried to get the auger off with a strap wrench, but it wouldn’t budge. Also tried using the screwdriver method to break the auger loose. But this is a terrible design. The auger has keys that, once locked together with the base, will not separate. After seeing how this thing is made, I can’t imagine how the auger would ever be able to be separated from the base by turning it clockwise. The keys on the auger click past solidly square stops and resist all attempts to release. I ended up using an oscillating tool to cut through the old auger. This exposed the bolt that holds the base. Once the base and old auger was out, it was a very simple process to install the new base (or the old base if in good condition after separating it from the now cut-in-half auger) and twisting on the new auger. I doubt I could get these new ones to separate if I tried, so don’t put the auger and base together until you want them permanently attached.

Auger would spin in both directions but not spin while washing
Used a Phillips screw driver to lock the top and bottom of auger. Took a while to separate from base. Used another driver to remove old base and put the new one on with nut driver. Placed auger on base and turned to lock. Job done and works great. Thanks
Instructions were fairly good, line up holes and push a phillips head screwdriver thru auger then twist it off. Problem is you can only use a short screwdriver due to space limitations, and it is or at least for me was impossible to twist the auger off as directed, but after I lost my temper and gave the screwdriver a good thump (auger wa

Do you have to replace the base if you are replacing the auger?
For model number GTW460ASJ5WW
Hello Wendy, thank you for reaching out. According to our research, the auger and base comes separately. If the auger, part number PS16226232, is damaged, then you may need to replace it only. We hope this information helps!

The Auger (Agitator) comes loose from the place it screws into. If I buy a new Agitator and screw it in to the spot do you think that will fix the problem?
For model number GTW585BSV0WS
Hi Myra,
Thank you for your question. If the agitator base is loose, part number PS16743416, it may be worn or damaged or the screw that secures the agitator base, part number PS11759130, is stripped. You will need to inspect these parts to see which one is causing the issue. We hope this helps!

We have researched the model you have provided and have found the part you are looking for is Part #: PS16226232 for the Center part of the Auger and Part #: PS16743416 for the Base. The Cap is Part #: PS12073992. We hope this helps, good luck with the repair!
