Washer would not spin
I assumed it was a problem with the timer, but further troubleshooting indicated the actuator was not shifting the motor from 'agitate' to 'spin'.
The actuator was slightly different in appearance to the original, but the bolt holes lined up and the actuator pin fit.
This fixed the problem of failure to spin.

Maytag washer was not spinning the clothes dry. I ordered a shift actuator after researching the problem. The part arrived in a couple of days. Took about 15 minutes to install. Easy fix and saved a $150.00 service call.

Easy to troubleshoot, easy to repair
The washer would not engage in initial load sensing, would only make a distinct, fairly loud, repetitive, click...click...click from the bottom of the tub. Multiple forums recommended checking codes and running in manual bypass. I did that and all signs pointed to the actuator. Once I had the washer tipped on it's face, it was 2 screws to swap the actuator, and it's been running fine for over a week.

Washer -Maytag Centennial- would NOT agitate. It would run through all cycles as indicated by the lights and even spin at the end, but never agitated. It also did not appeared to go into "sensing" mode at the start. Took a long time to move from "sensing" light to "wash" light. Did not hear or see a
There are a number of videos showing how to do this repair: >Disconnect power and water - cold, hot and drain. >Put washer on its side on a stand (low platform) to get to the bottom. ... Read morever - has 2 screws with nut heads. >Removed and replaced the Shift Actuator (part provided) using a Phillips screw driver - 2 green screws. Unplugged electrical connector which should be reconnected before new unit is screwed back down. Replacement part is not the same as the original. From what I read. this part has been a problem with these washers. >Put Pulley Cover back on. >Reset washer upright. >Reconnected water and power. >Ran "CALIBRATION". In Diagnostic Test Mode, turned to "rinse" light on and pushed "start" button. >Ran "AUTOMATIC TEST". In Diagnostic Test Mode, turned to "spin" light on and pushed "staet" button. Washer agitated in first cycle - "sensing" and in "wash". . Washer has been working as it should and I a very happy with the results.
I must say that PartSelect Identified the bad part as the Shift Actuator right off from the symptoms I provided.

A detailed Service Technician Service Manual is hidden inside the machine on the front panel. It is hidden by the bleach dispenser input. Washer will not start. It stays stuck in the sensing mode.
For model number mvwx500xw2
Hi Joshua, Thank you for the question. In most cases this requires a new Shift Actuator,PartSelect Number PS11747977. It may just be that the unit needs error codes cleared and a calibration test done. There should be a tech sheet taped inside the unit that will explain how to do this for your specific unit. I hope this helps

After the spin/rinse cycle my clothes remain dripping wet.
For model number 26002010
Hi Frank, Thank you for the question. If the drum is not spinning at all, I suggest checking the lid switch. If the switch is defective it will think the lid is open and will not allow it to spin. if the drum is spinning but not at a high enough speed to spin the water from the clothes, I suggest testing the Shift Actuator,PartSelect Number: PS11747977. Hope this helps!

My machine will wash, spin, and rinse. It will only work if i monitor it and keep pressing the start button. I ran the codes and replaced the latch assembly but it still sits there and does nothing unless i hit start on the last twelve minutes it has left. I've cleared the codes and it works a little bit better. It will only drain and spin it i turn the selector to drain and spin then i have to help it again. Can you help.
For model number MVWX700XW1
Hi Ken,
Thank you for your question. It sounds like you may want to take a look at your door lid switch and your electronic control board. If the door switch is intermittently malfunctioning then that could be why your appliance is stopping and only starting up again when you come to look at it. I would also suggest you look at your control board as well because that is what shifts through your different cycles. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My washer fills and drains ok, agitates ok, but will not spin in any cycle. It just stops and the lid light flashes. Will this part fix the problem? Thanks.
For model number WTW4800XQ0
Hi Corey,
Thank you for your inquiry. If the washer is not spinning there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the agitator directional cogs, the agitator cam kit, the shift actuator, the lid latch assembly, the drive belt, the drive block, the inner seal cap, the clutch assembly, the complete agitator, the agitator cap barrier with seal and the spacer thrust. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My washing machine will spin, but it will not agitate. I start the washer, it fills but then shuts off. When i open the washer lid, the clothes have not moved. I tried to rinse and spin and it fills then stops. It will spin and drain. I cannot move the agitator plate with my hand, it's stuck. I took off the agitator plate and the "teeth" are not worn or broken. I cannot rotate the shaft. The tub itself turns easily. My washer doesn't spit or drip any grease under the washer.
For model number wtw5640xw3
Hi Michelle,
Thank you for your inquiry. Where the washer is not agitating there are a few parts you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the washer that goes on the agitator retaining bolt, the drive belt, the shift actuator, the clutch assembly, the washplate, the lid latch assembly and the shield. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I know that something is starting to fail on my machine, but not sure what part. About every 6 loads it fails to spin, occasionally fails to drain at all, but if i set it to 'drain and spin' usually that will initiate that okay. Though sometimes that fails as well and i had to unplug the machine to get it to unlock so i could try again. About half the time when it is spinning it sounds like it is getting ready to launch into space. It's been suggested to me by some friends that it might be the 'shift switch', what do you think?
For model number Kenmore 11025102310
Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for your question. There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. Before it gets to spin cycle the lid lock light flashes and will not spin
For model number Wtw5500xw3
Hi Amy, thank you for your question. It could be this part however it seems more likely that you will want to check the lock itself. That part actually allows your appliance to go into the spin cycle. It is a safety device that will not let the appliance spin if it thinks the door is open. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
