This lid switch check is used in washers to detect if the washer lid is open or closed. This prevents a cycle from spinning when the lid is still open and is also used to start your washer once a certain water level is reached. Washer stops after wash portion of cycle
I removed the lid switch assembly and replaced it with the new lid switch assembly. The assembly included the lid switch, lid. check switch, and fuse. It came as one complete part.
Started with removing 4 screws on the top of the control panel. Once open, I found the schematic taped to the top. I traced the wires and found the 2 wires to test. Lid Switch not working
Took console off, renmoved old parts, reinstalled.
Removed front of control panel on the washer. Found the lid check switch, removed one screw, leaving the wires attached and replaced the old switch with a new one. Removed the wires from the old switch and place them on the new one. Reconnected the machine to the outlet,,closed the lid and listen to it run.

Washer fills with water but doesn't start
Changed lid switch. The hardest part was to remove the old switch. Wire connectors were very tight on the connection tabs of the old switch. Just out of curiosity, I did take the switch base plate apart just to see what the lid lever looked like underneath and how the adjustment worked.

washer worked but would not advance to next stage
Remove front panel. Then remove top of washer, two bolts at front of top. Then remove two bolts that hold switch assembly to top on right side of top. Switch gets pried out. It just sits in with small pins holding it in place. Wire connectors hold very tight. Install is reverse.

washer just stopped working
after checking obvious reasons (plugged in, breakers,) i took off control panel cover and saw that the fuse was blown, replaced it, plugged back in and it worked. When i pull the knob to start the washer, the water fills up to the right level, but then nothing happens. I replaced the fuse assembly, but it did not help. Not sure what other part i would need to get the washer to start the cycles. I would appreciate any help.

Washer will fill but that is the only function that works. I believe it may have been overloaded when it stopped working. Belts have been squeaking prior to stopping also.

Hi Bill, Thank you for the question. If the belts were the issue the appliance will still run but the drum woudl not move. If the appliance dose not start the wash cycle after it fills you may have a defective timer. The timer advances the appliance through the cycles. Hope this helps!

Blowing fuses more frequently and now all the time. In past once lid was dropped or timer pulled on the water solenoid would not operate although the solenoid checked out as fine, then i discovered that the fuse was blown, so i replaced it and all was operational again. When this happened again i replaced the fuse and washer would operate a week or so and then stop until i replaced the fuse. Now fuses blow the second i put a new one in and either have the lid down and pull the timer or have the timer pulled and then drop the lid. Does this indicate a bad lid switch? And will a new one fix this issue? Thanks

Hello Randy, thank you for writing. This is an indication of a faulty Lid Switch. The fuse is connected to the Lid Switch and tells the washer if the lid is opened or closed. Replacing just the Fuse will not fix it. This Lid Switch part number PS11738787 is the compatible replacement for your model. Good luck with your repair!

The button on top of lid does not depress anymore so spin cycle wont engage. Used screw driver in top to solve problem before but that wont work any longer. Will the lid check button you have available solve my problem?

My washer over fills & spills all over the floors on any setting whether i have it on small medium or large loads, if it’s on large... to prevent overfilling i have to manually turn the knob to small or off to prevent overfilling at the beginning of the washing cycle & on the rinsing cycle as well.

Hi Denise,
Thank you for your question. The water level switch is a pressure activated switch that is used to determine the correct water level in the tub. This part is normally located behind the control panel and will have a hose or air dome tube that connects it to the tub. On washers that use an electronic control, this switch may be located at the sump area below the tub. As the water fills in the tub it will compress the air in the tube and push against a diaphragm inside the switch. The switch will control the water inlet valve and turn the valve off at the correct water level. If the tube has a leak or is plugged, not enough pressure may be created to activate the switch and the washer may overfill. If the switch is defective it may also cause the machine to overfill.
To determine if the switch is bad, you should first eliminate the air dome hose as a problem. Look for signs of cracks or worn areas on the hose. Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well. If the air dome hose appears to be ok, then the water level pressure switch may be defective. Inspect the switch for signs of a mechanical defect or debris plugging the hole in the inlet nipple. To test the switch contacts for continuity with a multi-meter, you will need to apply the proper amount of air pressure to the air dome tube and then look for the switch to go open circuit at that level. The easiest way to do this is to start the washer and allow it to fill to the normal level and then remove the power cord. Locate the pressure switch and remove the wires from the correct terminals and then perform the continuity test. There should be infinite resistance or an “open circuit” when the water level is correct. If not, then the switch is defective. There are some other parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will also need to check the water inlet valve, the air tube for tub fill volume, the hose clamps, the hose washers and screen inserts, and the lid check switch. I hope this helps. Washer works on small load setting only. Once i switch it to medium or large load, the water stops running when i close the lid. Would a lid check switch solve this issue?

when i set dial to any sitting (rinse,spin,fill) i get nothing , lid clicks when raised ,indicator light comes on. Anyway to tell what ever part you tell me ,is not working

Thank you for your question. If the washer will not start, we recommend checking the lid switch assembly for continuity with a multimeter on the Rx1 setting. Before removing and checking the switch, please unplug the washer from the electrical outlet. Place the multimeter's probes on the switch’s terminals. You should receive a reading of infinity. With the probes still on the terminals, press in on and hold the switch’s button, your reading should change to zero or roughly zero. If your test results differ from those above, you will need a replacement door switch. We hope this helps!
Fills and agitates fine. Water drains when it spins but it begins to squeak about the time the water is emptied. Squeak gets worse after 30 seconds (more of a squeal then) as spin gets slower. Think it eventually comes to a stop. Squeak/squeal sounds more like a bearing/bushing than a belt to me. What is the likely culprit and how do I troubleshoot?

Hi Rob, thank you for your question. There is a spring release mechanism underneath of the control panel on the right and left hand corners. All you have to do is take a pair of pliers and squeeze each spring while gently tugging on the panel to pull it out of place on one side. Then you do the same to the other side and the panel can be pulled open. Good luck with your repair.
