Bulb went out, turned the bulb the wrong way trying to get it out, glass bulb came out but base stayed in socket. Finally got base out, got a new bulb at Lowe's, installed the bulb and it won't come on. I removed the base plate to inspect the socket thinking there may have been a burnt wire. Socket and wires seem to be okay. What else can I look for?

Hello Jennings, Thank you for the question. It could be the incorrect bulb, we recommend replacing the Bulb with a OEM Bulb, PartSelect Number PS2376034. If this does not fix the issue, you can test the wiring and socket with a Multimeter to make sure they were not shorted out, they will not always show physical damage.
I am so upset right now. My light bulb went out and tried my damnedest to get the screw out. It was in so tight...i used several phillips screw drivers and all it did was strip the screw.i i could not for the life of me...get it open. i was so angry after wrestling with it for over 45 minutes...i went and got the biggest screw driver i have and destroyed the plate. it is now so badly bent i will probably have to replace not only the light bulb but the plate too. i got to the light bulb...and tried to get it out...it did not unscrew...it came out with the elements only. i want advice on what to do now...how to fix the damned thing...and what you will do about this difficulty. like i said...i tried to follow the video example...and it failed...big time. why in gods name was this screw put in sooo tight that you can't get it out. this was a major purchase in november 2018 for me...and now...needless to say...i am at my wits end. i honestly feel like taking a hammer to it. help me...please.

Hello Pat, thank you for your question. We apologize that this was such a difficult repair. If the parts have not been replaced since the unit was purchased, they were installed that tightly when manufactured, which is a shame. You shouldn't have to break pieces to fix the bulbs. We can provide the part numbers for the bulb, screw, plate, and the socket. They are SCREW Part Number: PS12728594, light housing PartSelect Number PS2349147, socket PartSelect Number PS2342199 and PartSelect Number PS2376034. We have some installation, and troubleshooting on each part when searched on our site. I hope this helps!

The nightmare was that this microwave is installed under the cabinet....in order to get to the light bulb I had to pull out my stove then squeeze into the space between the stove and counter....my old microwave light bult was much easier to change.....Shame on Whirlpool for making this so difficult.....must be a better way to cover the li

Ordered top & bottom micro-switches and mounting plate parts. Internet reviews could not find specifics if the issue was due to a top/bottom or combination of micro-switch or mounting plate failure. Pulled the plug. Removed the top vent assembly cover held in by 2 Phillips screws inside the vent. Removed the control panel held in by 1 P
... Read morehillip screw at the top vent assembly area. Lifted control panel upward to release the catch and moved it off to the side - didn't disconnect any leads. Used a Torx bit to remove the door switch mounting plates at the front and pulled the plates through the opening from the control panel. Documented the wire color code connections, the top plate uses 2 micro's with one using both the closed & open contact. Installed the respective micros on the mounting plates and worked backwards with the wiring and removal steps. Once completed, the open/close sensing has worked every time.
