This is foam tape and it is usually used in conjunction with your range, specifically on the cooktop. Its purpose is to help seal the edges of the cook top to the counter top. Wrong part received, I spcefically called and explained that I needed 2 sided tape they sent me single sided tape.

i exlpained the GE profile cooktop has a chrome ring around the edge
and is atatched by 1/2 X 1/4 2 sided tape.
