Light out and Door spring broken
Remove side deco strips to remove screws that hold to cabinet. Pull microwave out and set on saw horses (power cable should be long enough to do this). Remove screws to top cover and lift enough to remove all connectors from the front panel pcb. Remove grounding wires from next top lid. Remove connectors from transformer on rigt side and the two connectionss at the rear fan assy. Remove top cover/vent assy. Remove the next top cover to get access to the light bulb assy. Use a cloth or kleenex while handling the new bulb as you replace it. The clip thta holds the bulb is easily released and use reverse procedure when assembling. For springs those can be replaced without removing the microwave from the cabinet. Remove the 2 screws that hold the door together accessed from the inside of the door at top. Pull door up to release from the clip at the bottom. Remove the broken spring and replace with new one. Use a screwdriver to help twist the torsion spring to clip into place. Replace door assy in reverse order. Read more...

Broken spring in microwave door
All screws easily accessible except for one on bottom of door. It was tough to remove, even tougher to reinstall. Took some time and a unique combination of patience and small tools.

My biggest problem was getting parts. I ordered what was shown in the exploded view - a spring. I received one spring. When I took the door apart I found 2 springs both different (a left and a right). Only one was broken and the spring I received just happened to be the wrong one. It took a phone to work things out and get the other spring shipped.

It would be good if the exploded view showed both springs. It would be better if the part number would just include both springs. Come on, handling, packaging and shipping costs more than these simple springs. If one spring breaks there's a chance the other is about to go. Shipping the pair to customers so we can replace both just makes sense to me.

Door switch inconsistent operation for Open/Close sensing.
Ordered top & bottom micro-switches and mounting plate parts. Internet reviews could not find specifics if the issue was due to a top/bottom or combination of micro-switch or mounting plate failure. Pulled the plug. Removed the top vent assembly cover held in by 2 Phillips screws inside the vent. Removed the control panel held in by 1 Phillip screw at the top vent assembly area. Lifted control panel upward to release the catch and moved it off to the side - didn't disconnect any leads. Used a Torx bit to remove the door switch mounting plates at the front and pulled the plates through the opening from the control panel. Documented the wire color code connections, the top plate uses 2 micro's with one using both the closed & open contact. Installed the respective micros on the mounting plates and worked backwards with the wiring and removal steps. Once completed, the open/close sensing has worked every time. Read more...

Microwave Oven Combo Door Latch Spring
PartSelect Number PS979582
Manufacturer Part Number 5304440316
The microwave door latch spring creates tension, and engages the door latch when the door is closed. This spring is made completely of metal, and is approximately 1 inch long. If your microwave door will not open or close properly, the microwave will not start. You may need to remove the control panel to gain better access to where the spring attaches, so make sure the power is disconnected from the microwave. This part is sold individually. NOTE: Remember to discharge the capacitor for your microwave before beginning this repair. The capacitor can hold a potentially lethal charge even when the power has been disconnected from the microwave itself.

both upper oven door springs broke. Door would not stay closed except with "self-cleaning latch in place"
I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY GOOD DESCRIPTION OF HOW TO REPLACE DOOR SPRINGS ON A BUILT-IN DOUBEL OVEN ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET. I HOPE THIS WILL BE OF HELP TO SOMEONE.

I correctly assumed it was the springs that broke. With the springs in hand I shut off the power at the breaker box. I removed both oven doors. The upper oven door required the removal of one screw for each hinge. Then with the door slightly open, wiggle and pull upward and the door detached from the hinge. The lower oven door is removed by just wiggling and lifting with the door slightly open. I then removed 8 screws that fasten the oven to the cabinet. I removed 3 screws that hold the bottom vent cover in place and wiggling and pulling downward the vent cover detached. The bottom of the oven was 11 inches above the floor. I placed two sturdy objects about 10 inches tall in front of the oven and lifting, wiggling, and pulling the oven moved forward. I pulled it out about 2/3 of its depth.

The sheetmetal sides of the oven are indented and the spring attachments are easily accessible. ONE TROUBLE SPOT. The back end of the spring attaches to the cabinet but there is a small metal piece called an "anchor" that attaches to the front of the spring and then to the hinge. When the spring breaks the anchor goes flying. I was able to retrieve one of the anchors but the other one fell down between the insulation and the side of the cabinet and I was not able to retrieve it with out pulling the side loose. I was afraid I would run into other issues if I did that. So my oven is sitting in the kitchen while I wait 3 days for a replacement anchor.

The anchor is about $7 and the 2-3 day shipping is $10 so you might do well to just order one along with the spring.

I ordered a pair of lower door springs at the same time. About $10 each. Worth it to me not to repeat this process in the near future.

Once the oven is pulled out, the springs are very easy to install. I did all three I could do in about 10 minutes max.

MY BIGGEST PROBLEM was deciding how to get at the springs. All diagrams in the installation manual showed solid metal sides on the oven. They did not show that the springs we easily accessible outside the oven case. I was pleasantly surprised to see the indentations as I started to slide the oven out of the cabinet!

With the springs installed, I will just push the oven back into the cabinet, install the 8 screws, replace the lower vent cover and install the doors. Turn on the breaker and receive the applause of my wife for my marvelous ability!

Spring for Door Broke
Remove 4 screws holding plastic vent between microwave and oven. Take off plastic vent. Remove two metal clamps at bottom of stainless panel (one screw on each clamp). Open door, remove two screws (recessed) at top of door that hold stainless panel (careful as panel is only connected by these screws and is heavy and door will spring shut without the weight of the panel...even with only one good spring) and put stainless door panel aside.

From bottom of door, remove two screws holding black plastic panel and put plastic panel aside. You should see the broken spring- remove it and replace with new spring. Note - hook the "lower" half of spring (the end with the U hook) first, then wedge/slide the other end until it hooks into slot.

Put parts back together in reverse order.
