Burning smell, ASSUMED it was the belt
Once we put the washer on it's side noticed lots of oil on the floor and in the belt cover area. Replaced belt anyway but issue is the leaking transmission. Starting warranty process since Maytag carries a 10-year part warranty and machine is 6.5 years old. Wish me luck !!!

Suspension rods were worn; washer is 10+ years old
Replaced the suspension rods, suspension rod supports, main drive belt, tub centering springs, water supply hoes, and washer drain hose. Taped new front suspension rods to side of tub to ensure that they did not slide down when raising the washer off its back from the floor. Had a helper lift the tub, which made attaching the new suspension rods easy. The tub is extremely heavy so by a helper lifting it up it made attaching the new suspension rods much easier. IMPORTANT: According to the technician's manual, which was taped to the inside of the washer, it is absolutely necessary to recalibrate the washer after replacing any suspension parts. We did this by following the instructions in the tech manual. Failure to recalibrate a washer could result in poor performance. The procedure is different for each brand or model of washer, but again is absolutely essential after replacing suspension parts of any kind. For some unknown reason, our washer did not have the tub centering springs. Our model should have had the springs.Facing the washer, we attached one to the front left tub housing and one to right rear of the tub housing. Recommend that anyone watch the installation videos for the suspension rods, center springs, and main drive belt before attempting the repairs.

squeal and chirping while in risne / spin mode
Removed belt cover from bottom of the transmission , remove old belt, clean the pulleys ,and re install new belt. The new belt fits tighter so it did a few time to get the belt fully seated. Re install belt cover.

My washer stopped spinning and I smelled a rubber smell. I followed your directions for replacing the drive belt and when I took the cover off I found a lot of black oil on the cover all over the pulley on the right. Is that normal when the drive belt breaks down?
For model number WTW5700XL2
PartSelect logo
Hello Sue, Thanks for your question. Replacing the belt is a good start for your issue - we would also advise cleaning the pulleys and seeing if any parts are leaking oil onto it. I hope this helps.

I’m having issues with my washer going into a fast spin. It will spin but not enough so my clothes are still dripping when it finishes. If i run a small load and put it on the solo spin cycle it will then spin fast enough. Do i need a new belt?
For model number WTW4800XQ0
PartSelect logo
Hello Bethany, Thank you for your inquiry. We would actually recommend checking the agitator directional cogs, agitator cam kit and shift actuator first. You can inspect the belt for any wear and tear and if it looks worn, then it should be replaced. Hope this helps!

When the load is slowing down from spinning it sounds like it may be a coin or something underneath the bottom of basket. Can you help?
For model number MVWX700XW2
PartSelect logo
Hello Donna, Thanks for your question. Check for any loose objects that may have fallen into the washer. If there is nothing, check the belt and the suspension rods with their supports, as that can cause a noise similar to what you are experiencing. I hope this helps.

Squeaking sound only during agitation cycle, even on delicate cycle..
For model number wtw4800xq1
PartSelect logo
Hello Edward, thank you for your question. The squeaking noise could be coming from the agitator, belt, drive block or pulley. We would recommend checking over those parts first to see if you can notice any wear and tear and if so, replace the corresponding part. I hope this helps!

Powers up but will not agitate
For model number wtw560xw3
PartSelect logo
Hi Joseph, Thank you for your question. If the washer is not agitating, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the washer, the shift actuator, the drive belt, the clutch assembly, the lid latch assembly, the washplate, the hub and the shield. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My washer is noisy (kind of squeals) when it is spinning. When the machine is not running I have noticed that the empty tub is very loosy goosy to the touch. Any idea if this sounds like it needs the belt replaced? Or?
For model number MVWC200BW0
PartSelect logo
Hi Tammy, Thank you for the question. I suggest checking the Tub Seal, Part Number: PS3407958 for wear. You can also check the block, Part Number: PS1410833 and make sure the Tub Ring, Part Number: PS11756029 is not damaged or needs to be replaced. Hope this helps!
