Washer baffle broke off
I snapped the piece into place. It took two people to do the job....one to hold the washer basket from moving and the other to snap it in place. It did take some hard pushing but it worked out great!!!! The repair man quoted me $130.00 for the installation only. And I installed myself it in less than 5 minutes! Read more...

Kenmore Washer Tub Baffle

This is the replacement tub baffle for your washer. It is made of black plastic and is approximately 13 inches by 2 inches. This part is sold individually and is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer. The tub baffle is found inside the washer tub, and it helps tumble your clothes. If the baffle is damaged or missing, you may notice marks being left on your clothes. The main reason you would replace the baffle is if you notice these marks, or if the baffle is broken, or keeps falling off.

The part was made wrong and did not fit.
The plastic tabs were too large to fit into the washer's slotted hole in the washer cage. I initially bought this part from a PartSelect competitor and it was made wrong as well. Whirlpool themselves showed this part on back order so the faulty part originated in a Whirlpool order to a vendor. The reason for this reply is that PartSelect resolved this bad part issue within 2 hours and 1 phone call. The competitor has not resolved anything yet in 3 weeks and 5 emails with image proof. One of the Baffle's had broken free from the drum.
While looking at the new baffle it became evedent that I would need to remove the top of the unit to secure the new baffle to the drum. This was easly done by removing the top of the unit. I removed the three screws from the top back of the unit. Once the top was off I located the inlet tube for the detergent to the drum. I was able to spin the drum and locate the underside of the baffle by looking through the hole where the tube had been attached . I then installed the baffle and snapped it in place. I turned the drum to locate the hole again and installed the screw that was supplied with the new baffle. I then returned the tube back to the location it had orginally been installed. I returned the top and reinstalled the screws to the back of the unit. Whrilpool wanted to replace the entire drum at a cost of $480.00 for the part alone. This is much more cost effective with just a small bit of work. I have contacted Whrilpool for the part number and they would only tell me that I needed a whole drum. I was contacted by a rep from Whrilpool and she told me that I was wrong I could not have done this without replacing the whole drum. My wife will tell all who ask that this unit is working wonderfully. Read more...

Broken washing machine Vane
Totally unable to move old vane using instructions on this site. Wound up breaking old unit in pieces to remove. Installed very easily. However when trying to install enclosed screw (which you are supposed to install through vane into tub) it did not line up even close to hole drilled into tub. I had wondered why the original vane didn't have a screw in it, now I know. Read more...

Ring Balancer had come loose and broke releasing the liquid inside that helps balance the basket.
First I removed the screws on top and at the bottom that holds the controls in place to the washer itself. I then removed the control panel and disconnected it off of the washer. I then released the two metal holders that keep the back of the washer in place with the front frame of the washer. I slid the metal exterior forward and away from the rest of the washer exposing the basket. I removed the top layer that holds the ring balancer in place and then was able to reach the ring balancer itself. I removed the old one and discarded it replacing it with the new ring balancer. I pressed it down onto the top of the basket as if you were putting a top back on to a tuppaware dish. I then put the top layer back on and then proceeded to put the exterior of the washer sliding it back in to place. The whole process took maybe about 45-55 minutes and it went relatively smooth especially after knowing how to remove each piece from observing a maintenance job one day. Read more...
